Eucalyptus (Myrtaceae family)

The genus Eucalyptus (Myrtaceae family) is originally from Australia but is now grown worldwide. Australia's aboriginal people, early explorers, and collectors have used Eucalyptus for centuries. The evergreen Eucalyptus tree is utilized extensively for its medicinal qualities.

Eucalyptus should NOT be eaten raw. Teas are made from the dried leaves. You can boil and steep them into a safe and effective remedy to get the benefits of the dried Eucalyptus leaves. Eucalyptus tea is suggested for treating various respiratory symptoms because of its natural decongestant and antiseptic properties. Drinking a tea of steeped leaves can help reduce coughing, congestion, sore throat, headaches from sinuses, and asthma symptoms.

Preclinical and clinical studies have shown that the Eucalyptus plant and its chemical constituents have enormous potential for disease prevention and treatment. Studies suggest several Eucalyptus species possess anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-viral, antioxidant, anti-nociceptive, anti-cancer, and anti-diabetic effects (Chandorkar et al., 2021).
