Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis L.)

Melissa officinalis L, called lemon balm or bee balm, is a perennial herb native to Europe, Central Asia, and Iran. Though it originated primarily in Southern Europe, Melissa officinalis is now naturalized worldwide, from North America to New Zealand. Melissa officinalis is a member of the Lamiaceae (mint) family (Miraj et al., 2016). Lemon Balm has been a traditional herbal remedy for at least a thousand years.

Historically, lemon balm has the following uses: antiviral and antioxidant activities; antifungal, antiparasitic, and antispasmolytic activities; flatulence; asthma; bronchitis; amenorrhea; cardiac failure; arrhythmias; ulcers; and wounds. It also has anti-gas, fever-reducing, antibacterial, spasmolytic, hypotensive, memory-enhancing, menstrual-inducing, and thyroid-related effects (Miraj et al., 2016).

Combining herbal remedies with an overall good diet, regular activity, lots of water, and plenty of rest is essential. With each step you take, you are stepping closer to living a life free from the things that hold you back!
