Mullein (Verbascum spp.)

Verbascum species (common mullein) is traditionally used in Spanish folk medicine to treat pathologies related to the musculature, skeleton, circulatory, digestive, and respiratory systems and treat infectious diseases and organ-sense illnesses. Recent studies may explain a link to its anti-inflammatory properties by the presence of flavonoids such as luteolin, quercetin, apigenin, and kaempferol within the chemical composition of Verbascum spp (Salas et al., 2021). Though further research is warranted, mullein's historical use and emerging scientific evidence highlight its potential as a natural remedy.

Mullein is currently used to support the following:

Respiratory Support: Mullein is often used to soothe respiratory issues such as coughs, bronchitis, and asthma due to its expectorant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Ear Health: Mullein oil has been traditionally utilized to address earaches and inflammation, with its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties offering potential relief.

Skin Care: Topical applications of mullein are believed to aid in skin healing, reducing inflammation, and soothing skin irritations like eczema and burns.

Anti-inflammatory: Mullein contains anti-inflammatory compounds, suggesting potential benefits for arthritis and inflammatory skin disorders.
